Husqvarna ST224 Auger System Parts & Part Numbers

This page lists the Husqvarna part numbers for four auger-system components on the Husqvarna ST 224 two-stage snow blower, SKU 961 93 00-96: the drive belt, the impeller belt, the lower auger belt guide and the shear bolt. Every number was checked against Husqvarna's own parts data. Some parts changed between production revisions, so each entry shows which revisions it applies to.

Scope of this reference

Part number vs. product SKU. The numbers in the table below are component part numbers from Husqvarna's illustrated parts list. 961 93 00-96 is the product number (SKU) for the complete ST 224 snow blower, not a part number.

What is covered. Only the four components below, only for SKU 961 93 00-96. This is not a complete parts list for the machine. For oil, spark plug and lubrication specs, see the Husqvarna ST224 maintenance specs .

Verified part numbers

The "Applies to" column comes from Husqvarna's own revision notes, which identify ST 224 builds by 11-digit manufacturing ID (96193009601 through 96193009606 for this SKU).

What each component does

Drive belt 584 21 61-02

Husqvarna lists this belt as the drive belt in the chassis, engine and pulleys drawings. In the operator's manual the drive belt is the traction drive belt, handled separately from the auger belt. It is listed here because the manual recommends replacing the drive belt and auger belt at the same time.

Impeller belt 501 81 82-01

Husqvarna's spare-part listing describes this belt as a low crank impeller belt. It appears in the same chassis drawings as the lower auger belt guide. The operator's manual does not use the term impeller belt: its belt procedures refer to the auger belt, the belt engaged by the auger control. Husqvarna's documents do not explicitly equate the two names, so order by part number rather than by name.

Model identification and compatibility limits

  • Check your revision before ordering a shear bolt. Husqvarna lists 588 07 75-01 for most ST 224 builds and 588 07 75-02 only for manufacturing ID 96193009606. The sources checked for this page do not say where the manufacturing ID appears on the machine. If you cannot confirm yours, give a Husqvarna dealer your model and serial details before ordering.
  • Shear-pin size callouts differ between documents. The operator's manual's auger shear-pin procedure calls for a ¼-20 x 2 pin, and its carton-contents list shows ¼-20 x 1-¾ shear pins. Husqvarna's description for 588 07 75-01 reads 1/4-20 X 1-13/16. Order by part number and revision, not by size.
  • One drawing is unresolved. Husqvarna's ST 224 parts data includes one chassis drawing, with no revision notes, that lists a different drive belt (582 64 07-01) and a different belt guide (598 64 44-01). Revision notes elsewhere tie those parts to other product numbers, not to SKU 961 93 00-96. If the belt on your machine does not match 584 21 61-02, confirm with a dealer.
  • Other ST 224 SKUs are not covered. Husqvarna's ST 224 support page also lists SKU 970 52 86-02 (ST 224 NA), which has its own parts list. Parts lists for other ST 224 product numbers, such as 970 46 86-01, also exist. Use the parts list that matches your product number.
  • No production years. Husqvarna identifies these revisions by manufacturing ID, not by model year. TuneSpecs does not map them to production dates.
  • Other models. This page does not cover the ST227P or any other Husqvarna model. Even where a part number looks shared, confirm it on that model's own parts list.

Auger-system troubleshooting from the operator's manual

Summarized from the ST 224 / ST 227 / ST 230 operator's manual. Follow the manual's full procedures and safety steps. Before replacing a shear pin, for example, the manual says to stop the engine, wait for moving parts to stop, remove the ON/OFF key and disconnect the spark plug cable.

Loss of snow discharge or slowing of snow discharge

Possible cause: The belt is off the pulley.

Manual's solution: Check or reinstall the belt. Adjust the pulley.

Possible cause: The chute deflector is clogged.

Manual's solution: Clean the chute deflector.

Possible cause: Foreign objects clog the augers.

Manual's solution: Remove the debris or foreign object from the augers.

Possible cause: The shear pin is broken.

Manual's solution: Replace the broken shear pin.

Impeller and auger rotation is sluggish when the auger control lever is engaged

Possible cause: Auger control cable tension. The manual notes this adjustment may also be needed after the auger belt is replaced.

Manual's solution: Adjust the auger control cable. If adjustment does not resolve the problem, replace the auger belt.

Augers take 5 seconds or longer to stop after the auger control lever is released

Possible cause: Auger control cable adjustment. The manual's check: an assistant times how long the auger takes to stop after the lever is released.

Manual's solution: Adjust the cable and re-test until the auger stops in less than 5 seconds.

Belt and shear-pin notes

  • The auger and traction drive belts are not adjustable. Replace them if they are damaged or begin to slip from wear. Husqvarna recommends having the belts replaced by a qualified service center, and replacing the drive belt and auger belt at the same time.
  • Use only original-equipment (OEM) belts. The manual warns that other belts can cause personal injury or damage to the product.
  • Replacing a belt requires separating the auger housing from the frame. The manual says an assistant should stand in the operating position and hold the handles while the housing is separated.
  • Auger and impeller shear pins are designed to break if an object gets into the moving parts. Replace a broken pin only with original-equipment shear pins.
